What is a doula?
Why should I hire a doula?
Your birth experience matters.
The way that you are supported throughout pregnancy and birth will remain with you through life.
Hiring a doula can help ease fear and tension surrounding the anticipation of birth and provide you with someone who is there just for you and your partner.
Assisting in creating a birth plan and walking you through your options, guiding you through relaxation exercises and labor positions, being available for any questions or concerns, alleviating pressure from your partner so they are able to be more emotionally present for your birth, and assisting in breastfeeding immediately after birth are just some of the benefits of having a doula on your birth team.
I will use relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, massage, counter pressure, aromatherapy (if you request and it is approved to be safe usage through my aromatherapist contact), labor positioning, and more to help ease the tension of your surges and keep you in a positive frame of mind.
Research shows parents who receive support can:
- Feel more secure and cared for
- Be more successful in adapting to new family dynamics
- Have greater success with breastfeeding
- Have greater self-confidence
- Have less postpartum depression
- Have lower incidence of abuse
Does a doula take the place of my partner?
As a doula I do not replace your partner.
I’m their extra set of hands, their guide if they feel stressed or unsure of how to help you, the calming presence reassuring you both that this progress is normal and wonderful, the one allowing them the breaks they need, and so much more.
We’re a team.
Together we can do great things.
