A common pattern here is to send a value containing both the request and a channel on which to return the result. WebSystem threads are not slow. A lot of the use of green threads are unnecessary and caused by people being overly concerned about the overhead of raw threads when they don't need to be. However, operating system threads need to be designed to work for a wide range of use cases.
